Engineering /Technical Education
Technical Education System in India is recognised worldwide for its high standard. Indian trained manpower is welcome anywhere across the globe. It is said in the western world that India is a Mecca for finding engineers suited to cutting edge technology jobs. There are 36 university-level institutions and 1195 colleges offering undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses in various branches with an intake of about 200,000 students per year.
A large choice of curriculum available in the area of engineering education. You can choose from a wide range of programmes from conventional engineering disciplines to new and emerging areas of technology including hi-tech frontier areas. It is mandatory for all the engineering colleges/institutions in India to get themselves recognised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a statutory body of Government of India, responsible for the maintenance of norms and standards in technical education system throughout the country.
Securing Admission
Admission to undergraduate courses at IITs is based on the merit obtained in a national entrance test, JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). An All-India ngineering/Pharmacy/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is conducted by CBSE, Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, for admission to degree-level courses in Engineering, Pharmacy and Architecture in central universities, NITs, deemed universities and institutions in the States/UTs other than those covered by JEE/State Level Entrance Examination.
NRIs can appear in these entrance tests but foreign passport holders are not eligible to take
these tests.
Admissions of foreign nationals/PIOs/NRIs are facilitated under the DASA scheme to NITs and
other centrally-funded technical institutions, except IITs wherein 15 per cent of seats have been
reserved in premier technical institutions for Indian diaspora. For details of DASA scheme you
may visit the websites – www.educationindia4u.nic.in/www.edcil.co.in
For postgraduation, institutions like the IITs require GATE score for admission. The GATE
examination is conducted by IIT annually at different centres in India. The score should not be
older than two years as on the last date for receiving applications.
Self-financing international students can apply to Ed.CIL or directly to the private institutes.
